ASEM Workshop 2026 sets new attendance record at ISTA Klosterneuburg

The ASEM Workshop 2026 welcomed 177 participants—the largest workshop to date, with attendance growing year after year.

Congratulations to the Fritz-Grasenick Awardees:

  • Irene Vercellino (Life Science): “SCAF1 drives the compositional diversity of mammalian respirasomes”
  • Antonin Jaros (Material Science): “Sensing Spin Precession with Free Electrons”

The first-ever poster prizes and the imaging competition highlighted outstanding work across Austria’s electron microscopy community.

Poster Prize Winners:

  • Best Life Science Poster Award — Ilja Ortner: Detection of Micro- and Nanoplastic (MNP) in winter wheat plants
  • Best Materials Science Poster Award — Alexandra Wagner: Environment dependent local structure, charges transfer and optical conductivity of potassium-Intercalated Graphite by consecutive high-resolution EELS

Imaging Competition Winners

  • 1st place — Sergei Bogdanov: Entangled Electron-Photon Pairs reveal the Ghost Image of a Cat.
